"The Dalai Lama has said, 'If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.  If you want to be happy, practice compassion'" (689).

This quote reminded me of the Golden Rule and my sophomore English class where my teacher basically preached that performing "virtuous goods" (essentially selfless acts having to do with compassion, empathy, etc.) is a way of actually improving your own happiness, just as much as you're improving that of someone else.

Treat others the way you want to be treated--you'll have a much happier life if you do so.
"A figure of huge international and moral stature, he was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic in New Delhi" (702).

I never understood why so many good, famous people are killed.  Ghandi, Lincoln, Lennon, the list goes on and on and it angers me to think of what else these people could have accomplished had they been able to live out their lives fully.
